Compress PDF

Runs in this tab. Nothing is uploaded.

Strong and Maximum turn every page into a picture. That shrinks scans and photo-heavy PDFs a lot, but the text can no longer be selected or searched.

How it works

  1. Drop a PDF.
  2. Pick a level: Light keeps text, Strong and Maximum turn pages into images.
  3. Check the new size and download.

Questions

Are my files uploaded?

No. The tool runs as JavaScript inside your browser tab, so your files are never sent to a server. You can disconnect from the internet after the page has loaded and it still works.

How much smaller will my PDF get?

It depends on what is inside. Scans and photo-heavy PDFs often shrink by 50 to 90% with Strong. PDFs that are mostly text are usually compact already; Light then saves little, and we tell you so instead of giving you a bigger file.

Why is a desktop app sometimes better?

Desktop tools can re-compress the images inside a PDF while keeping the text. A browser can’t do that reliably yet, so for text PDFs with a few large photos our Strong level trades searchable text for size.
